Learn the ancient friction fire method of the Bow Drill which was used by humans for tens of thousands of years. In this course we will demonstrate the technique for starting a fire using only the materials found on your landscape. We will discuss the components of a good bow drill set, then go out as a group to procure them from the local landscape, assemble the kit and gather an effective tinder bundle before working with each student to hone there kit and technique for creating fire “off the landscape”.

While the ultimate goal will be to get your kit completely from the local environment, we find it most constructive to work each students “edge” to achieve the most progress in each persons learning journey. If this is your first attempt at bow drill we may focus more on the technique and less on procuring every part of it from the land. If you have made several fires before we will help you try out new materials and refine your technique. Whatever your experience level, making fire is always fun so we hope to see you around the campfire soon.
