Harvesting, Processing and Eating Acorns

Come join us at Maine Primitive Skills School to explore the landscape and harvest the bounty that surrounds us. In this, the third installment of a multi-part series on foraging our wild landscape, we will be gathering oak acorns and turning them into flour. Acorns have been a staple food for animals and humans for thousands of years, but recently have be relegated to near obscurity. It’s time to re-discover the nutritious and diverse uses of this abundant food source. Learn to: identify the best species to harvest, gather efficiently, process into flour, and use acorns in your kitchen. We will be going through all steps of the process and making a tasty acorn treat to sample.
